Dear Readers,
Geneva Health Files sits at the cross section of Global Health, Journalism and Media Entrepreneurship. Given its unique nature, it is only befitting that we take all steps to protect, nurture and grow this reader-funded initiative.
I am pleased to announce some important changes in the governance of Geneva Health Files.
After practically running this initiative solo, since its inception in April 2020, I am happy to now work with leading journalism and global health practitioners who will be involved in the shaping of GHF in the coming months and years.
In the fifth year of our operations, we have taken a few concrete steps to further professionalise this initiative in order to prepare for the future. As a bootstrapping operation for the last four years, dominated by a relentless news cycle, we are now transitioning into a mature media outlet aiming for longevity and sustainability.
We are incorporated as a for-profit limited liability company in Geneva, Switzerland. We also have an official press accreditation at the United Nations.
Over the last few months, we set up a new advisory board to guide our journalistic mission, and the operations of this young media company. We also set up an editorial board in 2023.
I am excited about bringing together this advisory board drawing on cross-cutting expertise from the fields of media, entrepreneurship and global health.
Our five-member Advisory Board to guide overall strategy:
Aron Pilhofer, Media Innovation Expert & Chief Product Officer, Star Tribune, USA
Jon Lidén, Global Health Expert and Former Journalist, Switzerland
Nick Mathiason, Founder, Finance Uncovered, UK
Tatyana Tsukanova, Entrepreneurship Expert, EHL Hospitality Business School, Switzerland
Miren Bengoa, Director, Fondation suisse de la Chaîne du Bonheur, Switzerland
We are also being advised on strategic affairs by Gaurav Garg, a Global Health Policy Expert, affiliated with the private sector.
Our three-member Editorial Board help us determine our editorial agenda:
Garry Aslanyan, Executive Producer & Host, Global Health Matters Podcast, Switzerland
Kristof Decoster, Editor, International Health Policies, Institute of Tropical Medicine, Belgium
Nicoletta Dentico, Head of Global Health, Society for International Development, Italy
I am so grateful to all these experts for their kind consideration and time for us. I have had the wonderful opportunity of working with most of them over the years.
In this next phase, we are seeking partners, collaborators and funders, who would want to work with us in our mission to promote accountability in global health policy-making through independent and rigorous journalism. In addition, we will also soon be announcing pricing and access related changes.
The news business is difficult, but we are carefully assessing our future path and adapting ourselves to evolving market realities that also present opportunities.
Thank you for your engagement.
Sincerely,
Priti Patnaik
